SPINES, THORNS, PRICKLES

2022

Sharp pointy structures used as a defense mechanism in some plants againstnatural enemies:
herbivores, pests, and fungal and bacterial infections, to name a few
.

SPINES, THORNS, AND PRICKLES
are the plant’s first structural barrier.

Some plants may instead use colors to signal toxicity or make changes internally in their chemical compounds to ward off the enemy or to attract the enemy’s predator. Some others have evolved mechanisms to trap and digest the enemies themselves. These objects are the result of a material exploration using glass as a means for representing the duality between fragility and brutality in some natural cycles.
